Overview:
🌟 Get ready for an unforgettable STEAM in the PARK adventure at Sitka National Historical Park in Sitka, Alaska on August 18-22, 2025. Throughout the week, we’ll dive into the rich history of the Sitka people, work closely with scientists at the Salmon Hatchery to explore the fascinating lifecycle of salmon, and learn about the cultural significance of Sitka National Historical Park and its stunning totem poles. 

🌟 Highlights of the Week:
Tlingit Culture and Heritage

• Explore the rich history and culture of the Tlingit people, including their traditional art, totem poles, language, and customs.

Russian-American History

• Learn about Sitka's role as the capital of Russian America, the Russian colonization of Alaska, and visit the historic Russian Bishop's House and St. Michael’s Cathedral.

Sitka National Historical Park

• Discover the significance of the 1804 Battle of Sitka, the last major conflict between the Tlingit and Russians, and explore the park’s lush trails and forest ecosystems.

Salmon Lifecycle and Fisheries

• Dive into the lifecycle of the Pacific salmon, its critical role in the ecosystem, and how sustainable fishing practices maintain healthy fish populations in Alaska.

Art and Carving Traditions

• Discover traditional Tlingit art, including the creation of totem poles and masks, and the cultural significance of these works.​​

Accommodations:

• Campers will stay at the beautiful Sitka Fine Arts Camp in cozy dormitory-style rooms. 

​Costs:

• $720 per camper
• The program fee will cover food, accommodations, program fees, supplies, and equipment for all activities.

​​Travel:

• Travel to and from camp is the sole responsibility of each camper.
• Nearest airport(s):
  Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (ANC) and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA). Both airports serve as major hubs for connecting flights to Sitka Rocky Gutierrez Airport (SIT).

Beginning & End

• Registration is 2-4:00 pm on Day 1
• Checkout by 10:00 am on Day 5

• January 31, 2025: Application deadline
• February 5, 2025: Camp acceptance/rejection notifications sent
• February 15, 2025: $100 nonrefundable deposit deadline
• May 1, 2025: FULL STEAM in the PARK payment deadline
• May 15, 2025: Full payment is no longer refundable
