Overview:
Join us for an unforgettable week of exploration and discovery at Voyageurs National Park, where educators will camp together in tents, fish off the docks, and gather around the campfire. We’ll be serenaded by the haunting calls of loons day and night, and if we’re lucky, some of us may catch our first glimpse of the Northern Lights.

🌟 Highlights of the Week:
Aquatic Ecosystems and Water Quality

• Lake Ecology: Dive into the interconnected lake systems of Voyageurs, exploring aquatic plants, fish species, and how water levels are carefully managed to maintain balance.
• Invasive Species: Discover the challenges posed by invasive species like spiny water fleas and zebra mussels, and how they affect the park’s delicate aquatic ecosystems.

Wildlife and Conservation​

• Iconic Wildlife: Get to know the park’s residents, including moose, black bears, bald eagles, wolves, and of course, the beloved loons, as we explore their habitats.
• Fish Species: Learn about the park’s diverse fish population, including walleye, northern pike, and smallmouth bass, while discussing sustainable fishing practices.

Cultural History

• Voyageurs and Fur Trade: Learn about the French-Canadian voyageurs and their role in the fur trade, traversing these same waterways in the 18th and 19th centuries.

Astronomy and Dark Skies

• Stargazing: Voyageurs is a designated International Dark Sky Park, offering incredible opportunities to learn about constellations, planets, and the Milky Way in a pristine night sky.​

Accommodations:

• ​Educators will camp together in tents, fish off the docks, and gather around the campfire. Tents and sleeping bags are provided.

• The program fee will cover food, accommodations, program fees, supplies, and equipment for all activities.

• Travel to and from camp is the sole responsibility of each camper.

Beginning & End

• Registration is 10:00 am on Day 1
• Checkout by 10:00 am on Day 5

Important dates:

• January 31, 2025: Application deadline
• February 5, 2025: Camp acceptance/rejection notifications sent
• February 15, 2025: $100 nonrefundable deposit deadline
• May 1, 2025: FULL STEAM in the PARK payment deadline
• May 15, 2025: Full payment is no longer refundable
